About this painting:

One of my first rural works, this preliminary painting is a personal favourite as it unified several previous style elements and paved the way for a larger triptych commission of the same view. It also communicates a natural sense of balance to the unconscious of the viewer.

The starting point was wondering what enchants when such a rural view is seen in real life. The answer appeared to be a sense of peace, distance from chaotic modernity and very often some childhood memories. Somehow nature links with the sense of that which is most true and fundamental.

Those elements were expressed through simplified shapes, vibrant colours and a sense of unending green that is a metaphor for the unending peace so many seek in country life. The style is essentially ‘naive’ but also incorporates some Cubist and realist elements. Its innocence is its charm, it truth, and what emerges is a world that many characters from a magical childhood might enjoy. Thus, in many ways, the work is a tribute to both inner and outer harmony.
